In real life, the police found countless polaroid photos of the victims stashed away in his dresser. Elsewhere, they found body parts, vital organs and a human head in Dahmer's fridge, and more human remains scattered around his kitchen and in his freezer.

When Dahmer's killing spree ended with his arrest in July 1991, the Criminal Investigation Bureau of the Milwaukee Police Department searched his apartment. They found a slew of human remains, including the seven skulls, two hearts and other human organs, and two skeletons.

Other evidence, including large boxes of muriatic acid, degreasing solvents, Polaroid photographs of victims (both alive and in various states of dissection), desiccated male genitals, and hands were recovered (Image 1). Dahmer's apartment was torn down in November 1992, 15 months after the human remains were discovered, at the request of the victim's families, per Newsweek. So, technically, it no longer exists.

Investigators later determined that the substance in the barrel was acid, which Dahmer had used to dissolve his victims' remains. Police arrested Dahmer that evening after finding body parts in his refrigerator and human remains throughout his apartment.

Dahmer killed four more men before he was finally arrested. One of his last victims was Oliver Lacy, 24, whose body Dahmer had sex with before dismembering the corpse. He kept Lacy's head and heart in his refrigerator, and his skeleton in a freezer.

Regarding the smell coming from Dahmer's apartment, Schwartz said that what she felt was a ''very chemical smell. '' She said, ''I was a crime reporter for five years so I know what it smells like when you walk into a building with a dead body or a decomposing body.

And in the kitchen, the officer found four severed heads and a tray with two human hearts. In the freezer, they also discovered an entire torso and bags of human organs, while seven skulls were found in his bedroom. Mueller said he was overpowered by the stench of the fly-infested apartment.

Oxford Apartments no longer exists. Most tenants moved out of the building after Dahmer's arrest, and the complex was understandably unable to rent out the empty units to other people.

As viewers watched the scene, they quickly took to social media to speculate the contents of what they believed to be a grisly snack and they all assumed the same thing - that the sandwich was made using human remains. This hints at the real Dahmer's confession of eating some of the organs of his dead victims.

Instead of keeping them, the head of the civic group, real estate magnate Joseph Zilber, destroyed the items, and the families of the victims compensated with the $407,225 raised during the auction. At the time, Zilber said his aim was that "these tools of death be permanently destroyed".

The apartments remained available to rent, but there were not many takers due to the absolutely horrific murders that took place there. Today, the building is no longer standing. Dahmer's apartment building was torn down and completely demolished, at the request of the victim's families.

Collector Taylor James, owner of Cult Collectibles in Vancouver, Canada, told TMZ that he's willing to part with the prison glasses for $150,000. James acquired the glasses and other Dahmer memorabilia a few years ago, after a former housekeeper of Dahmer's father, Lionel Dahmer, contacted him, according to reports.
